Kasich: ‘To Me, Conservatism Is Giving Everybody a Chance’

GOP presidential candidate Ohio Governor John Kasich sat down with CNN’s Dana Bash in an interview broadcast on Sunday’s “State of the Union,” and was challenged with accusations that he sounds like a Democrat sometimes.

Kasich said that Republicans “allowed themselves to be put in a box,” and that conservatism “is giving everybody a chance to be successful.”

“I think Republicans allowed themselves to be put in a box. Like, if I care about people — like some lady whispered to me when I walked out of the town hall, she says, ‘Thanks for caring about people,’ and she’s like whispering like that’s — no. To me, conservatism is giving everybody a chance to be able to be successful. That’s the way Reagan was. I mean, that’s common sense.”
