Cowherd: Hard to Judge How Good Babe Ruth Was — Never Faced Latinos, Blacks

On the Tuesday broadcast of “The Herd” on Fox Sports 1, host Colin Cowherd spoke on how hard it can be to compare sports teams from different eras.

Cowherd initially said that the NBA’s Golden State Warriors cannot be compared to Michael Jordan’s 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls due to changes in the sport, comparing it to Major League Baseball now versus when Babe Ruth was playing.

He reasoned that a slider had not yet been invented and that Latino and African-American players were not allowed, so the Hall of Fame slugger would not be as successful now as he was from 1914-1935.

“Babe Ruth didn’t see a slider. Nobody threw one. He never saw a Latin player, African-American player. He saw the same pitchers over and over. There were six teams, guys were roofers in the off season and sandwich makers.”
