MSNBC’s Joy Reid: Separation of Church and State Is a ‘Constitutional Fact’

Saturday on MSNBC, network national correspondent Joy Reid spoke with evangelical chairman with the Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) campaign in South Carolina pastor Mike Gonzalez.

While discussing Cruz, Gonzalez called the separation of church and state a “myth.”

Reid responded to that statement by saying the separation of church and state is a “constitutional fact” and a “part of our constitutional makeup.”

“Let me just push back on you a bit. The separation of church and state is not a myth, it’s a constitutional fact. It’s a fact on the ground. It’s a part of our constitutional makeup. The founding fathers were explicit that they did not want to have a national church.”
