TEL AVIV  – A witness in a trial against a high-profile crime family was killed in a car bomb that exploded in Tel Aviv on Sunday morning.

The 40-year-old man succumbed to wounds sustained in the blast after being evacuated to the Sourasky Medical Center.

Police said that the bombing was a criminally motivated assassination attempt against a witness who was slated to testify against a well-known criminal. Video of the bombing below:

Two months ago, a car belonging to criminal Ben Cohen exploded on the Givatayim-Tel Aviv border, seriously wounding him and another person. Cohen lost both his legs in the attack.

Police said at the time that the attempt on Cohen’s life would likely spark renewed violence between criminal gangs in the area.

One month prior to the Cohen bombing, three criminals, Baruch Bokal and brothers Gabi and Baruch Falah, were injured in a car bomb in Rishon Lezion.

Bokal had been the target of assassination attempts in the past.
