Stranger Played ‘Taps’ Outside of Ohio Police Headquarters to Honor Slain Officer

A stranger in Ohio delivered a touching tribute to a slain officer brought some people at Columbus Police Headquarters to tears, per a Fox 59 report.

The Columbus Police Department said staff members heard something going on outside, so they opened their windows to find a man playing “Taps” in front of the building.

Homicide Detective Howe said the gesture to honor fallen Columbus Officer Steven M. Smith was “pretty incredible.”

Smith passed away Tuesday after being fatally shot last Sunday.

The Columbus Division of Police Facebook account posted a message openly thanking the stranger, who they later were able to identify as Mr. Webb.
