Bill Kristol: Trump Does Not Have the ‘Character or Judgement To Be President’

Thursday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Weekly Standard editor-in-chief Bill Kristol said, “I just think Donald Trump should not be the president of the United States. He should not be commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the United States.”

When asked what true Conservatives do who do not trust Trump is a real Conservative, Kristol said, “Yeah and also don’t think Donald Trump has the character or judgment to be president. That is actually more important. I’m opened to heterodox positions on different issues. I been sympathetic to the insurgence about half the time against the establishment. But that’s one thing whether you are more incline to be with Mitch McConnell of or more inclined to be with Ted Cruz . That’s is in my view a different kind of choice.”

“I just think Donald Trump should not be the president of the United States,” he continued. “He should not be commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the United States. So that’s sort of you know a threshold question. If you don’t think that then you think, ‘Gee I would like to have a conservative to vote for.’ I think an awful lot of other people in the country would, including a lot of moderates and independents and some moderate Democrats.  It is not as if Hillary Clinton is so widely popular out there. We have two candidates who are viewed by considerable majorities in unfavorable way not a favorable way, as the major party nominees. As Ben Sasse said last night on Twitter and Facebook, the Nebraska senator,  ‘Can’t we do better?’ I think we can and I hope a serious independent candidate steps forward. And I think that candidate can really surprise, that candidate can do well.”
