Ryan: Trump’s Comments About Judge Are ‘The Textbook Definition of Racist’

Tuesday in Washington, DC after his press conference on poverty, when asked about controversy brewing around presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s comments about U.S. Federal Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel, the judge presiding over the lawsuits involving Trump University Speaker of the House Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)  said Trump’s comments are “the textbook definition of racist comments.”

Ryan said, “I disavow these comments. I regret these comments that he made. Claiming a person can’t do their job because of their race is sort of the textbook definition of racist comments. I think that should be absolutely disavowed. It’s absolutely  unacceptable. But do I believe that Hillary Clinton is the answer? No I do not.”

He added, “I’m not going to even pretend to defend them. I’m going to defend our ideas. I’m going to defend our agenda. What matters to us most is our principles and the policies that come from those principles, and our ability to give the people of this country a better way forward.”
