Elderly Georgia Woman Beaten, Set on Fire During Home Invasion

An elderly Georgia woman is in critical condition after she was beaten and set on fire by a group of home invaders, NBC4i reports.

Per the report, Meriwether Co., GA Sheriff’s Office says three men and a woman forced their way into 83-year-old Dorothy Dow’s home.

“Once they entered the home, one individual entered her bedroom where she was already in bed,” Meriwether Co. Sheriff Chuck Smith told reporters.

The suspects demanded cash from Dow, but she refused. One of the men then pistol-whipped her, and another tossed lighter fluid on her and set the great-grandmother on fire.

Despite suffering broken bones and having been set on fire, Dow was able to dial 911.

“With one hand broken and her arm broken in four places, she pulled the top off of the gallon of water, poured it over her head and put out the fire,” Beth Dow, the victim’s daughter-in-law, said. “She then drug herself into the den on her broken arms to get to her cellphone to call 911. She said, ‘I thought they were going to kill me’. They told her that she was never going to see her sons again.”

Although no arrests have been made, police have an idea of who may be responsible for the attack.

“She has individuals that come here and help her during the blueberry harvesting process. We believe through the course of our investigation that it could be people that have been here prior to this attack,” Smith said.
