A Florida family is hurting after they say their neighbor shot and killed their German shepherd Buffy and pit bull mix Thor, WALB reports.
“For someone to cause this family so much harm, not knowing what they’re doing to my husband or my children, it’s not fair,” Yamilla Frederick told WALB.
Bufy helped Antonio Frederick after he was injured while serving in the Marines.
“She would help me with my sleeping when I was depressed and whatnot,” he said. “She would come and put her paw on me or put her leg on me.”
Thor was by Yamilla Frederick’s side while she battled stage three breast cancer.
“I had a bilateral mastectomy and I’m on hormone pills, and the dog just helped me go through everything when I was home alone. The dog kept me company,” she said.
The Fredericks’ neighbor, Jose Rocha, was arrested for animal cruelty.
Rocha told police that one of the dogs came on his property but that he was not aggressive. He reportedly told police he was “just shooting to scare him.”
The family’s third dog, Isabella, ran off without being harmed.
