Dem Rep Swalwell: Russia Wanted Trump as President Because He Thought ‘Fondly’ of Putin

Saturday on MSNBC’s “AM Joy,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) suggested Russia wanted to get President Donald Trump elected because he thought fondly of Vladimir Putin and would be their “preferred candidate” to collaborate with the Russian president.

“The tactics between Donald Trump and also the Russia president seemed to converge,” Swalwell stated. “We know in Russia that all streams flow to Putin, whether it’s academic, whether it’s business or whether it’s the media. There really is no difference like we have in the United States. So, they did launch a sophisticated campaign. Joy, we have to ask ourselves why. Were they just bored, or was it because they wanted to elect a preferred candidate who thought fondly of Putin and who would roll back sanctions and reduce the role of NATO and it looks like that’s what they are getting.”
