Dem Rep Engel: ‘Legitimate’ to Talk About Trump’s Impeachment, But It’s Not the Right Move At the Moment

On Wednesday’s “MSNBC Live,” Representative Eliot Engel (D-NY) argued that while he doesn’t think impeachment is the right move at this time, it is “legitimate to talk about” impeaching President Trump.

Engel said that he didn’t think impeachment is the right move, and that he wanted to know the truth. Engel also called for an independent commission and a special prosecutor, adding, “If we have those things, and then we see that there are impeachable things emanating from them, then I think that’s the time to bring it in. I don’t want to get the cart before the horse, but of course, it’s lurking in everybody’s mind.”

Engel furthers stated, “[W]hen I go home, people are asking about it. this is what people really want to know. And so, I think it’s legitimate to talk about it, but I think that we need to keep our eyes on the prize. The prize for me is to get the truth to the American people.”
