Andrea Mitchell: Trump’s Lecture to NATO Leaders Was ‘Awkward,’ ‘Painful to Watch’

Thursday on MSNBC, NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell declared it was “painful” to watch President Donald Trump telling NATO member nations they “owe massive amounts of money” toward NATO’s defense budget.

Mitchell said, “Just watching it—it was painful to watch. This was his debut at NATO and they were really angry.”

She added, “What is so off-putting here was that he was standing in front of a sculpture presented to NATO, to this new building, that was part of the twisted steel from the World Trade Center, recognition that the only time that NATO has invoked Article 5 for the collective defense was after 9/11, coming to the defense of the United States. That made it even more awkward.”
