Bob Stoops on Sudden Retirement: ‘There Is No Smoking Gun Whatsoever’

Wednesday, Bob Stoops abruptly retired as the head coach for the Oklahoma Sooners’ football team.

The 56-year-old told “The Dan Patrick Show” host Dan Patrick that the surprising announcement was not for any reason other than just being the right time, as opposed to health issues or a pending scandal involving the school.

“There is no smoking gun whatsoever,” he told Patrick on Friday. “Anyone who knows me knows that’s the case. Nothing healthwise … No smoking gun anywhere. I guess people have a hard time when someone just makes the decision to handle their life the way they want to and step away in a proper fashion and hand something off that’s so good, but that really is just the way it is.”
