Monday on Fox Sports 1’s “Undisputed,” co-host Shannon Sharpe reacted to the trash talk between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor at media appearances for their upcoming bout.
McGregor got caught in some controversy after sports personalities took offense with him telling Mayweather, “Dance for me, boy.” Mayweather himself shrugged it off and refused to call his opponent racist.
Mayweather called McGregor a “punk” and a “faggot” at another media appearance.
According to Sharpe, the comments from the two fighters stem from President Donald Trump, who he said was “allowed to say certain things with no ramifications.”
“I don’t have a problem with trash talking,” Sharpe stated. “I don’t have a problem with you trying to sell me something, but doesn’t need to be sexist, it doesn’t need to be racist, it doesn’t need to be derogatory. And that’s what we saw. I’m disappointed as a society because we’ve come to accept this. I hate to say this, guys, but this is the President Trump effect because he has been allowed to say certain things with no ramifications.”
“Call me PC. I’m going to be PC,” he later added.
