Rubio: Trump-Backed Immigration Bill Is ‘Not Going to Pass’

Monday on CBS4 in Miami, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said the Republican immigration bill endorsed by President Donald Trump was “not going to pass.”

Rubio said, “That bill’s not going to pass, obviously. I think the White House knows that you don’t have 60 votes for that in the Senate.”

He continued, “Essentially, my argument is I don’t want to limit legal immigration. I certainly want to change the way we conduct it because we are in an economic competition for talent. We have to have an immigration system that allows us to do that. And so giving more points for merit and less points for family connection is an appropriate adjustment in the 21st-century economy.”

He added, “Where I probably have a big difference of opinion with this bill is that it sets an arbitrary cap on the number of people that are able to come through with a green card. I don’t think that should be an arbitrary cap, I think the number should be driven by demand.”
