McCain: Trump’s Debt Deal ‘Was Not an Exercise in Bipartisanship’

Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union, ” Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said President Donald Trump’s debt ceiling deal with Democrats “was not an exercise in bipartisanship” given the Republican leadership was “surprised” by the deal.

McCain said, “Well in all due respect this was not an exercise in bipartisanship. The Republican leaders, Ryan and McConnell, were surprised to hear that he had cut this deal with Chuck and Nancy. ”

He continued, “That’s not the way we need to do business.”

He added because it continues cuts to the military, “the agreement that they made is basically devastating to national defense.”
