“God Bless America” saved Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price from getting ejected Sunday as his team squared off with the New York Mets.
At the end of the top half of the seventh inning, the Reds skipper left the dugout after second baseman Scooter Genett got ejected for showing his displeasure with a strike three call.
Price was in the middle of arguing with umpires when all three suddenly stopped once they heard the playing of “God Bless America.” The umpires and Price all quickly removed their hats and put their hands over their hearts.
Instead of picking up where they left off, Price marched back to the dugout. After the game, he admitted his patriotism saved him.
“’God Bless America’ gave me time to realize that was not the time to get ejected,” Price said after the game, via Cincinnati.
He added, “I believe in honoring the flag. I can tell you that.”
The Reds went on to beat the Mets 10-5.
