Mike Huckabee: Kate Steinle Would Not Have Died if We Avoided Sanctuary Cities

Saturday, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee reacted to a San Francisco jury finding Jose Ines Garcia Zarate not guilty for the death of Kate Steinle, attributing Steinle’s “unnecessary” death to the city’s sanctuary city policy.

“Kate Steinle would not have died had we simply avoided these sanctuary cities, enforced our existing law,” Huckabee explained. “What a tragedy and an unnecessary one. It’s just impossible not to be heartbroken over her death and this absolutely absurd judgment that came down from San Francisco this week.”

Huckabee then said the jury’s “absurd” decision is the result of the judge disallowing Zarate’s past deportations as evidence.

“Those are the things the jury should have known,” he argued.
