Saturday, former Clinton campaign aide Zerlina Maxwell said that President Donald Trump’s rally in Pensacola, FL, which some say was to campaign for Roy Moore, and a visit to Jackson, MS for a civil rights museum opening, was a message the country was headed back to a pre-equal rights era.
“Make no mistake, [Trump] is in Pensacola, Florida, right on the border of Alabama campaigning for a child molester. He’s going to Mississippi. And all of that is essentially a message to his base that we’re going to go back to a time when people like me … did not have equal rights in this country,” Maxwell, Hillary Clinton’s former director of progressive media, argued in an appearance on MSNBC.
She continued, “I think that we have to stop beating around the bush when we talk about the president and insisting that he is not pandering to the racists in his base. Now, every single person that voted for him is not a racist, but they are certainly embracing extreme rhetoric that he is promulgating as the commander in chief. It is completely unacceptable. And I’m completely disgusted at the fact that there is anyone in the Republican Party who would be embracing of an accused child molester who has serious allegations that have been corroborated by eight different women.”
Maxwell then said she is “sad for the country” that we have to wake up with Trump as the president, adding it is a “disgrace.”
