Council of Economic Advisers Chair: No One Thinks Rubio Will Hold Up the Tax Bill

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “OutFront,” Kevin Hassett, the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, responded to Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) statement by saying he thinks the Senate will figure it out and he doesn’t think Rubio will hold up the bill. He also stated that no one in the White House thinks the child tax credit needs to be expanded.

Hassett said, “I think that’s something that the people in the Senate are going to have to work out with Senator Rubio. Senator Rubio had an amendment that went to the floor. It was rejected the first time around. And he cares desperately about this issue, and so he’s trying one last time, I respect that. But I expect they’ll work something out. I don’t think anyone thinks that Rubio’s going to hold up this bill.”

Anchor Erin Burnett then asked, “[Y[ou’re okay with that, if that might get bigger?

Hassett answered, “The president had a list of nonnegotiables…and the child credit level, it’s very generous right now, and I don’t think it needs to be expanded. I don’t think anyone in the White House does, but we respect Senator Rubio and the process.”
