Stephen A Smith on Why Roger Clemens Doesn’t Deserve to Be in the MLB HOF: ‘Sheer Stupidity’

As a lead-in from ESPN’s “SportsCenter” Thursday to “First Take,” Stephen A. Smith reacted to Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds, both tainted by steroid use, failing to be elected into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame this year, saying Clemens has nothing to blame but his “pure stupidity.”

“It’s not about the cheating,” Smith argued. “You know what it’s about? Absolute, positive stupidity. This man had retired. He was minding his business and then dared people to sit up there and probe into his past as to whether or not he was using steroids knowing that [his] wife was once in ‘Sports Illustrated’ looking buff.”

Clemens and Bonds both needed 75 percent of the vote to get elected, but received 57.3 and 56.4, respectively.
