Alter: Trump’s ‘Americans Are DREAMers, Too’ Was ‘Fraudulent and Misleading’

Saturday on MSNBC, Daily Beast columnist Jonathan Alter reacted to President Donald Trump’s comment from his State of the Union Address that “Americans are DREAMers, too.”

According to Alter, the comment was “fraudulent and misleading” because he was pointing to people who were victims of crimes by immigrants, who Alter said “commit many fewer crimes than native-born Americans.”

“[T]his was in the context of putting immigration, making immigration be about crime,” Alter explained. “Remember, he wasn’t speaking to DREAMers in the balcony. He was pointing to victims of violent crime by immigrants who commit many fewer crimes than native-born Americans. So, the whole context was fraudulent and misleading.”
