Pruitt: I Didn’t Know About Pay Raises Until Yesterday, ‘and I Changed It’

During an interview with the Fox News Channel on Wednesday, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt stated he didn’t know about pay raises given to two staffers that the White House didn’t sign off on and that he “changed it” when he found out about the raises yesterday.

Fox News Chief National Correspondent Ed Henry asked Pruitt, “Now, if you’re committed to the Trump agenda, why did you go around the president and the White House and give pay raises to two staffers?”

Pruitt responded, “I did not. My staff did. And I found out about that yesterday, and I changed it. … I issued a statement yesterday walking back those pay raises.”

Pruitt further stated that he didn’t know who was responsible, but said the agency is “in the process of finding out how it took place,” and vowed there will be “accountability.”
