Pelosi: Separating Families Is ‘Barbaric,’ Damaging Children’s Brains

Monday at a press conference in San Diego, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said separating immigrant children from their families was “barbaric.”

Pelosi said the press conference was about “this heartbreaking, barbaric issue that could be changed in a moment by the president of the United States by rescinding his action.”

She continued, “This is so heartbreaking. It so challenges the conscience of our country that it must be changed, it must be changed immediately.”

She added, “Overwhelmingly, the America people are opposed to separating families. They understand the importance of the relationship between children and their families, the damage that can be done to children’s brains by the stress that is added by this separation—the list goes on.”
