Dem Rep Castro: Travel Ban ‘The Closest That We’ve Come to the Chinese Exclusion Act’

On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” Representative Joaquin Castro (D-TX) stated that the travel ban is “the closest that we’ve come” to the Chinese Exclusion Act.

Castro said, “[A]s I looked at it, as it was being developed, and even as the decision was announced today, I couldn’t help but think that this is the closest that we’ve come to the Chinese Exclusion Act, which kept Chinese from coming to this country for about 60 years, until, in the early 1940s, the Congress had to pass a law to overturn that. This, in a sense, is Donald Trump’s Chinese Exclusion Act.”
