Gingrich: Trump ‘Not Going to Back Down’ on Tariffs

Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Your World,” former House Speaker Newt Gingrich predicted President Donald Trump would not “back down” on tariffs.

Discussing Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announcement of $12 billion in aid to American farmers, Gingrich said, “The Chinese are convinced that they can cause enough pain to the American farmer that the Trump administration will blink. The Trump administration sent an important signal today with Secretary Purdue’s announcement that we’re not going to back down. Frankly, if you look at the total behavior of the Chinese since 1991, it is an absurdity to allow it to continue, but when you start to change it, they’re going to fight. Look, they’ve had a great deal. They ripped us off every single year, they have stolen our intellectual properties, rigged the game, of course, they don’t want it to change. President Trump is right and we better figure out how to engage in this fight and win it.”
