GOP Sen Kennedy: If Brennan Repeated His TV Statements in an Airport, He Would Be ‘in Handcuffs or in a Straight Jacket’

Monday on CNN’s “OutFront,” Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) told fill-in host Poppy Harlow if former CIA Director John Brennan were making similar statements with regards to President Donald Trump that he was making on television in an airport, he might face arrest or be put in a straight jacket.

Kennedy, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made those remarks in response to questions about Trump revoking Brennan’s security clearance.

“[I]f Mr. Brennan repeated in an airport some of the things he said on tv, he would either be in handcuffs or in a straight jacket. And I can’t imagine anybody going to Mr. Brennan for objective analysis of the national security situation.

Harlow pushed back on Kennedy’s assertion that he would be arrested, to which Kennedy explained why he saw Trump’s actions as justified.

“I think Mr. Brennan’s objectivity, and for me, his credibility is broken,” Kennedy replied. “It is more broken than the Ten Commandments. Now, there’s no reason that he can’t continue in a free country to say what he is saying. But if Mr. Brennan has decided to become a politician, you know, politics is not beanbag. If you want to run with the big dogs, you can’t hide on the porch. He can’t go on television in the morning and make overtly political statements that are over the top if he believes there is a top, and then at night call his friends in the bureaucracy and receive inside work that way.”
