Chris Matthews on Whitaker Appointment: ‘Nixon Had Some Shame,’ Trump ‘Has None’

Monday on MSNBC’s “Hardball,” host Chris Matthews said given Matthew Whitaker’s appointment as acting attorney general, President Donald Trump showed he has no “shame.”

Matthews said, “The president’s decision to promote an unabashed loyalist like Whitaker to effectively highjack the Russia probe has a growing fuel of backlash. Will the president get away with using Whitaker to stifle the whole Mueller probe altogether?”

On Whitaker’s past comments about Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, Matthews said, “This guy did an audition. He went point by point, hit all of Trump’s erogenous zones, all the things he wanted to hear. And he said, ‘Well thank you, you are exactly the guy I want.’ And that guy says, “Guess what? I knew what you wanted and that’s why I said that stuff.'”

He added, “There is a big difference between Richard Nixon and Donald Trump. Richard Nixon had some shame. This guy has none.”
