Angus King on Using Spending Bill to Protect Mueller Probe: ‘Shutting Down Gov’t Should Not Be a Regular Practice’

Sunday on MSNBC’s “Kasie DC,” Sen. Angus King (I-ME) weighed in on congressional Democrats saying they will tie their support for a spending bill to protect Department of Justice special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election.

King said he is not keen on shutting down the government because “it never works.”

“I think there are ways to protect Robert Mueller, and I think we can do that. Hopefully, we can do it,” King told host Kasie Hunt.

“I think shutting down the government should not be a regular practice to get what you want on policy,” he added. “It never works. It doesn’t further anybody’s goal. I wouldn’t go there.
