Incoming House Dem Caucus Chair Jeffries: Barr Has ‘Appropriate’ Experience, But There Are Concerns

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” incoming House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) stated that former Attorney General and possible Attorney General nominee William Barr seems to have “a decent reputation” and “the appropriate degree of experience.” Jeffries also stated that Barr’s criticisms of some of the prosecutors appointed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller are a cause for concern.

Jeffries said, “William Barr has a decent reputation, as far as I can tell, has the appropriate degree of experience. He’ll, of course, have to be vetted by senators who are Republicans and Democrats as part of the confirmation process. But we do need to move beyond the current acting attorney general, who appears to be nothing but a lackey for Donald Trump and someone who does not do justice to the Department of Justice.”

Jeffries added that Barr’s criticism of some of Mueller’s appointments is “definitely a reason to be concerned, and perhaps his criticism of some of Bob Mueller’s appointments is what has endeared him to Donald Trump as a possible appointee, but those should be scrutinized appropriately by the Senate, which has the confirmation authority pursuant to the Constitution.”
