I will be writing about the State of the Union address tonight from a party organized by Obama supporters through the Obama campaign, which is still active and pumping out fundraising and issue-based emails.

As much as I detest the idea of the “permanent campaign,” especially one waged in coordination with the president (first-world tech, third-world politics), I have to admire the way they get basic things right.

I received several e-mail invitations. Once I signed up for the event, I received two confirmation emails making sure I had the address. Yesterday, I received a personal phone call to make sure I was coming.

That’s Organization 101. I should point out that several years of active political life I have never had that kind of contact or outreach from any Republican campaign. It seems basic. But the GOP barely does it at all.
