One of the 56 times Attorney General Eric Holder answered “I don’t know” to a question during his unpleasant House Judiciary hearing on Wednesday pertained to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.  It’s been around since 2002, but Holder doesn’t know if it’s been enforced.  Ever.

“There have been 18,000 opportunities a year” since the law was passed, observed Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ).  “So I’m just wondering if you’ve even enforced it once?”

“I don’t know whether there was enforcement during the Bush Administration or the Obama Administration since the passage of the law in 2002,” Holder replied.  “I just don’t know what the statistics are.”

Which is strange, because as Holder himself noted, “I have three kids and I am, interestingly, married to a woman who is an obstetrician, a gynecologist, very accomplished in her field.”  Maybe they have an agreement not to discuss certain topics over dinner.  He doesn’t ask if she knows anything about abortionists running afoul of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, and she doesn’t ask him what happened to all those guns he sent to Mexico.

One might think Holder would spend a few minutes brushing up on the history of that law before appearing before House Republicans, right after abortion freak show Kermit Gosnell was convicted on multiple counts of first-degree murder, particularly since his boss notoriously opposed legal protection for born-alive infants when he was an Illinois state senator.  But it should be clear to everyone by now that Eric Holder doesn’t put any more effort into his job than Barack Obama does into his.  They both live in a perpetual state of happy ignorance.  In fact, Holder echoed Obama when he claimed to have learned of HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’ possibly illegal shakedown of insurance companies by reading newspapers.

The funniest part of Holder’s appearance before the House was when he melted down and began angrily demanding respect from Oversight Committee chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA).  Respect?  For what?  You earn respect by doing your job.

The Chicago Sun-Times is hearing rumors that Holder is done for, and Obama is looking at Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick as a possible replacement.  Maybe Holder will find out he’s been replaced when he reads about it in the newspapers.
