Curious consumers headed over to healthcare.gov on Sunday found themselves out of luck, as the fragile website was out of service. A Department of Health and Human Services spokesman said the website’s outage was the fault of a private contractor.  The issue was identified as a “failure in the networking component that brought down network connectivity to the site.”

Joanne Peters, HHS Spokeswoman said in a statement “Today, Terremark had a network failure that is impacting a number of their clients including HealthCare.gov. Secretary Sebelius spoke with the CEO of Verizon this afternoon to discuss the situation and they committed to fixing the problem as soon as possible.”
