As I mentioned the other day, ISIS has been enjoying a disturbing amount of success at recruiting women to its medieval cause.  I’m not using “recruiting” as a euphemism for forced conversion and slavery here.  In fact, they’ve got female recruits from Britain supervising their sex slaves, as the UK Daily Mail reports:

Thousands of Iraqi women are being forced into sex slavery in brothels run by a ‘police force’ of British women jihadis, it has been reported.

As many as 3,000 women and girls have been taken captive from the Yazidi tribe in Iraq as Isis militants continue their reign of terror across the region.

Sources now say that British female jihadis operating a religious police force called the al-Khanssaa brigade, that punishes women for ‘un-Islamic’ behaviour, have set up brothels to for the use of Isis fighters.

A source told the Mirror: ‘These women are using barbaric interpretations of the Islamic faith to justify their actions.

‘They believe the militants can use these women as they please as they are non-Muslims. It is the British women who have risen to the top of the Islamic State’s sharia police and now they are in charge of this operation.

‘It is as bizarre as it is perverse.’

It sure is bizarre, but as to whether it’s perverse, we’re back into the weeds of arguing about whether the Islamic State is authentically Islamic in any way whatsoever.  I’m all in favor of having Muslims around the world read these creeps out of their religion, but as noted in the Daily Mail piece, they’re quite happy to show you the passages in the Koran that authorize what they’re doing.

And contrary to the general faith that all of humanity is in love with modern, progressive ideals, there are quite a few women voluntarily rejecting everything Western culture believes about equality to cross that bridge to the 10th Century and sign up with the most regressive, patriarchal interpretation of Islamic tradition imaginable.  Some of them, like ex-rockergirl and mother of two Sally Jones, seem motivated largely by antipathy to the Western culture they grew up in.  (The Daily Mail mentions that Jones now “fears she will never be able to return to Britain,” a fear that every good British citizen can hope to God is extremely well-founded.)  But there’s something drawing people to this extreme form of Islam, and the usual tired old theories about poverty causing anti-social behavior won’t cut it.

There’s a story going around – originally sourced to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, but related by the Daily Mail, among other outlets – in which a captive Yazidi teenager was allowed to tell the world what it’s like to be a sex slave in the Islamic State, apparently because her captors get off on letting the world know how they abuse their victims:

The 17-year-old says she is among 40 Yazidi women being kept as sex slaves after their town was seized by the extremist group four weeks ago.

She said her ordeal was so horrific she often wished she were beaten to death.

‘There’s a part of me that just wants to die,’ she said.

‘But there is another part of me that still hopes that I will be able to embrace my parents once again.’

[…] Her parents, who fled to a refugee camp in Kurdistan, gave the newspaper her mobile number.

She added: ‘To hurt us even more, they told us to describe in detail to our parents what they are doing.

‘They laugh at us because they think they are invincible. They consider themselves are supermen. But they are people without a heart.

‘We’ve asked our jailers to shoot us dead, to kill us, but we are too valuable for them.’

She said some of the girls were as young as 13 and had been shocked into silence as a result of the abuse they had suffered.

Another report says the Islamic State is abusing these women as part of its enthusiasm for ethnic cleansing and genocide, in an effort to breed the Yazidis out of existence.  “ISIS have taken around 300 women from Sinjar to give to jihadists to marry and make pregnant to have a Muslim child. If they can’t kill all Yazidis, they will try to smash the blond bloodline,” charged the chairman of the Kurdish Cultural Center in London.

There are men and women who grew up in modern Western societies voluntarily flying around the world to be a part of this.
