HOUSTON, Texas–As Texas’ gubernatorial election nears, it has been revealed that Republican candidate and Attorney General Greg Abbott has raised almost three times more money than his opponent, Democratic State Senator Wendy Davis.

Abbott recently reported having $35.5 million on hand while Davis has only reported having $13.1 million, according to the Dallas Morning News. A press release from Abbott’s campaign stated that $35.5 million is the highest cash on hand amount ever reported by a Texas candidate.

A representative from Abbott’s campaign said in a statement to Breitbart Texas, “Greg Abbott’s report is transparent about his donors – the campaign itemized every contribution received, as was the case with all past reports. In the antithesis of transparency, Sen. Wendy Davis is once again refusing to disclose the source of millions in campaign contributions. In fact, the Davis campaign has set an election record in Texas for having the most undisclosed campaign contributions in the history of Texas politics.”

Some of Davis’ known fundraising partnerships have raised eyebrows.

Back in May Hollywood A-listers J.J. Abrams, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg hosted a fundraising event for Davis. Guests were charged $1,000 at the door of the soiree. Each party-goer’s status depended on how much he or she donated to Davis–a $10,000 contribution allowed a party-goer to become a co-host; a $25,000 donation constituted host status.

Then in March, the state senator spent time collecting funds in Chicago. One fundraising event she attended, called “Ultimate Women’s Power Lunch,” was hosted by Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky. Schakowsky is known for her far-left views, which represent the antithesis of Texas’ business-friendly, low tax environment.

Davis has additionally received scrutiny for collecting millions of dollars from donors outside of Texas. Abbott, on the other hand, has received 95 percent of his campaign contributions from within Texas, according to his campaign staff.

Texans for Greg Abbott Campaign Manager Wayne Hamilton said in a statement, “The strength of this campaign builds each day, and we continue to be overwhelmed by the support we’re receiving from across Texas. We are incredibly thankful to the many Texans who have contributed to our effort to ensure that Greg Abbott can continue to travel the state promoting his vision to improve education, grow jobs, preserve freedom and ultimately achieve victory in November.”
