AUSTIN, Texas — A school bus from Kirbyville Independent School District, in East Texas, was slammed into by an 18-wheeler injuring several students. The accident occurred on Highway 96 just north of the town of Kirbyville and south of Jasper, Texas. Several injured students were observed being loaded into ambulances.

“It appeared the 18-wheeler struck the back and left side of the school bus tearing it open,” said David Bellow, a news contributor for TexasGOPVote.com who came upon the accident shortly after it happened. “There was a huge gash that began at the back of the bus and continued up the left side of the bus.”

Bellow reported at least six ambulances were on the scene and he observed several children on stretchers wearing neck braces. He said it did not appear there were any fatalities at the scene. As he was driving away, several other ambulances were observed in route to the crash.

“I would be very surprised,” Bellow stated, “if there weren’t some major injuries with the students who were in the back of the bus.”

“A lot of parents were arriving at the scene frantically looking for their children to make sure they were okay,” Bellow said. “It appeared the bus was full as there were about forty students standing around.”
