KGO-TV: Riot police at UC Berkeley have regained control after a night of chaos. It began with protestors taking over a building, and then fires, fights and vandalism broke out in the streets.
The protest was over tuition hikes in the UC and CSU systems. It began at Durant Hall around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night. The hall, which is under construction, was taken over by a couple of dozen demonstrators who broke windows, sprayed graffiti and used a sound system. They blocked the entrances from police with dumpsters.
“We are looking at some damage to the skylights up top, there is graffiti throughout the building and windows that have been broken out,” said UC Berkeley police Capt. Margo Bennett.
