Indianapolis police identified the gunman who opened fire on a Fortville policeman as James Lockhart III of Indianapolis. Lockhart was later shot to to death in a confrontation with police; the officer was hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
Investigators said Fortville Officer Matt Fox pulled over Lockhart for not having a taillight around 11:30 p.m. Friday at 800 North and 700 West in Hancock County.
