On Friday’s broadcast of ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption,” co-host Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser speculated on the importance of Jason Collins’ contract with the Brooklyn Nets as the first openly gay player in NBA history.

According Wilbon, the novelty of Collins’ participation has been diminished by former Missouri defensive play and NFL prospect Michael Sam’s announcement.

Kornhesier agreed, noting that Collins isn’t new to the NBA.

Collins finished with no points and two rebounds in 12 minutes of action in his season debut against the Lakers on Sunday.
