Thursday during a press conference on immigration reform, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) likened the Speaker of the House John Boehner’s lawsuit against President Barack Obama for excessive use of executive action to former President Abraham Lincoln’s difficult relationship with General George B. McClellan during the Civil War which caused Lincoln to eventually remove McClellan for refusing to aggressively engage Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s Army.

Durbin said the lawsuit reminded him of a “dark moment in history” when “another president form Illinois President Abraham Lincoln” told McClellan “if he wasn’t going to use his army I’d like to borrow it.” Durbin then claimed “that is what we are facing on immigration.”
