CNN National Correspondent Gary Tuchman reported live from the Guatemala-Mexico border, where many of the illegal immigrants entering the United States being their journey, that passage from Guatemala into Mexico is “easy” because the border is unsecured.

He stated that even though there are police near the border “no one minds that people are going across the river from here in Guatemala into Mexico,” and individuals can cross the border in front of police without fear. The official border station where border patrol officials from Guatemala and Mexico work is about a mile from where Tuchman was reporting, but he said “they don’t seem to care either.”

In fact, Tuchman declared “the police are not only friendly here, they’re actually encouraging us to go for a ride on one of the rafts [into Mexico].”
