Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) took a contradictory tack to her Democratic colleagues multiple claims that House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) lawsuit against President Barack Obama is a “march toward impeachment.” On CSPAN’s “Washington Journal” on Friday, the delegate from the District of Columbia thanked her “friend” for using the lawsuit to stop talk of impeachment.

Holmes said, “I think the Speaker deserves a lot of credit because although I think the suit is more than frivolous, I understand strategically why hes doing it.”

“If you have a growing momentum in your party to impeach the president… and if you remember what happened when they impeached President Clinton and that took the Republican Party out, she added. “You don’t want to repeat that bad history.”

Holmes said her “sympathies are with John Boehner” who she considers a friend adding, “People can be on the opposite side politically and still be friends.”
