In an interview that aired on Indianapolis ABC affiliate RTV6 on Sunday, Dr. David Sanders, an associate professor of biological sciences at Purdue University, warned that Ebola could undergo mutations that would make it an airborne virus.

Sanders made these remarks as a nurse had contracted the virus, which has led to questions over how that might have occurred. 

“It can enter the lung through the airway side,” Sanders said. “So this argues that Ebola is primed to be able to have respiratory transmission.”

“Ebola is a capable of entering the airway – human airway cells,” he added. “We need to be taking this into consideration – what if. This is not a crazy what if. This is not a loud what if.”
