“Daily Show” co-founder Lizz Winstead blamed “redistricting” and the media for the woes of Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis (D) on Friday’s broadcast of “The Reid Report” on MSNBC.
After Winstead and Reid laughed at a clip of “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart mocking Texans while arguing that Democrats are wrong to think they can turn the state blue, Reid asked Winstead why Davis was doing so poorly, to which Winstead responded “I think part of it is that, you know, redistricting is redistricting.” And “I do think that with Texas, the media has a lot to do with it. I think there is just so much going on with the way that reproductive justice has become an issue that is big, but in a state as big as Texas, there are so many other issues.”
Texas not have districts for its gubernatorial races due to the fact that it, like every other state, holds state-wide votes to pick the governor. Also, Davis has been endorsed by The Houston Chronicle, The San Antonio Express-News, and The Austin American-Statesman, which are the largest newspapers in three out of the four largest cities in Texas. A recent poll of almost 4,000 likely voters in Texas done by CBS News, The New York Times, and YouGov shows Davis trailing her Republican opponent, Greg Abbott 57-37, and losing to Abbott by 12 points among female voters.
