Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro expressed his pleasure with Los Angeles increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour on Wednesday’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on MSNBC.

Castro stated, “I was happy to see what Los Angeles did. Of course, this is following on the heels of what’s happened in places like Seattle. And my hope is that we’ll see more of this, and it’s particularly meaningful because this was a local effort. So, I’m glad to see that. And it strikes at the heart of what a lot of folks are concerned about out there in our country today, which is this issue of making sure that in this 21st century America remains the undisputed land of opportunity. And in order to achieve that for people who are working hard, you need to make sure that they’re fairly compensated.”
