Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo spoke as a guest on ESPN Radio show “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” about his fantasy football convention, which was canceled after the NFL warned the participating players that they would be in violation of league rules. The convention, set in a Las Vegas casino, was shut down when the NFL claimed in a letter to the NFL Players Association that the casino holdings made it the same as supporting gambling, which the NFL does not support.

Romo, likening the NFL to being the high school kid that does not get invited to the party, speculated that the NFL shut down this convention because they were not making any money off of this.

“It’s like when you’re in high school and you don’t get invited to the party, it makes you feel bad. If they really wanted to just be a part of it, all they had to do was call and ask. It would have been a lot easier than going about the process the way they did.”

“I got this email that talks about how no players or NFL personnel are to be associated [with casinos], well, I’m like, that doesn’t really make sense,” Romo explained. “There’s just far too many cases and it does make it sound sometimes that it’s an issue about money, which is disappointing because we were just trying to get the fans to hang out with players.”
