On Wednesday, University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban joined the Confederate flag debate when he said that he does not advocate “symbols that are not positive toward human rights.”

Saban later clarified his comments about the flag Wednesday on ESPN Radio’s “The Paul Finebaum Show” saying that coaches and athletes are not suited for topics that have nothing to do with sports, such as the Confederate flag.

“I don’t know if theres a place for that really in sport. I don’t know if athletes and coaches should have opinions about things that need a lot more research and are decisions that need to be made by other people and other places that have nothing to do with what we think.”
