France’s Benoit Paire opened up the first round of the U.S. Open Monday with an upset victory over fourth seed out of Japan Kei Nishikori.

During the first set, Baire went to serve and lost grip of the racket,  slinging it to the ground, but the French tennis player overcame this gaffe to fend off the 2014 U.S. Open runner up with a  6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 score.
