ESPN2 “First Take” co-host Stephen A. Smith reacted to Houston Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler declining the offer to visit the White House with his former Denver Broncos teammates to celebrate their Super Bowl on the show’s Tuesday broadcast.

Smith said Osweiler, who cited not wanting to miss practice with his new teammates for opting out of the visit, should have visited the White House, adding that all athletes should want to visit the president of the United States, especially President Barack Obama.

“That’s the commander-in-chief, man. That’s the highest office in the land. It’s the leader of the free world. He calls you to celebrate you. Whatever differences you may have or whatever other obligations you may have, it is incumbent upon you as an American citizen, to me, to honor that request. And I’m getting tired of these athletes snubbing the president, particularly this one, who’s got more style in terms of — and more sports knowledge than almost any president we’ve ever had,” Smith proclaimed.
