During a town hall on CNN on Wednesday, 2020 presidential candidate Washington Governor Jay Inslee (D) stated that fighting climate change must be an effort “like when we defeated fascism,” which required “major” research and development, and there will be some investments that “don’t pan out.”

Inslee said, “We’re going to have to make some R&D investments, like we do frequently on technologies, some of which don’t pan out.”

He added, “Look, a few years ago I checked, we were spending more money on R&D on one Jeep than the entire clean energy budget of the United States. This has to be an effort like when we defeated fascism, and like [when] we went to the moon, which required major, major R&D.”
